Problem and Solution

The company was planning to roll out Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and needed a way to train every employee beyond a simple understanding of the initiatives. Employees needed to be able to integrate ESG initiatives into their work and describe the positive impacts of ESG initiatives on employees and clients. This project provides learners with an engaging simulation that allows them to practice the learning objectives in a safe environment.

Text-based Storyboard: Microsoft Word

After receiving the source content from stakeholders, I assessed the content to understand the learning needs, identify any gaps in content, and create learning objectives. I then used Microsoft Word to create a text-based storyboard, which I shared with fellow instructional designers on my team for feedback on the proposed learning experience. I used standardized navigation formatting to create well-organized sections for the Visual Design and the Learning Experience. Within the Learning Experience section, I was able to draft each scene by writing a prompt, visual notes, and programming notes for each slide that I planned to create within Storyline.

Full Development: Articulate Storyline 360 and Canva

With feedback from fellow instructional designers on the storyboard, the full development of the simulation in Storyline was an exciting process. I created four scenes with varying amounts of layers, variables, and conditions to create a seamless experience. Feedback from leaders, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs), was provided via Articulate Review 360.

Features

Photo-realistic design: I sourced real image assets from a repository and edited them to maintain a polished look. This allowed me to create a more realistic scenario that immerses the learner.

Gamification: I incorporated the animation and appearance of badges within the email portion of the simulation for each question type to show up with a validating sound effect whenever the user answers a question correctly.

Simulation: This project is unique in that it adds engagement at every level, mimicking a Microsoft Outlook email screen and a Microsoft Teams meeting, complete with hover states, notification pop ups, team members, chat features, and reactions when the user selects the appropriate responses to put into the chat.
